This fuchsia coloured brocade Chinese robe dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is lined in a sky blue silk. There is a band of embroidery down the closure that continues along the hem of the garment. It is decorated with figures, flowers and bridges, replicating a walk in the garden.There is an additional woven ribbon that runs along beside it, decorated in a pattern of abstract cranes and symbols. The closure is a combination of silk loops and round brass buttons. The embroidery on the cuffs of the sleeves is of birds and cranes in a garden.

Condition: The neckline of the garment has been altered as a neck closure no longer lined up. There are some darker colour marks on the brocade. The off-white silk that is embroidered in the hem and cuffs has some staining and discolouration. There is some discolouration in the lining..
