Chinese Embroidery Fragment Mounted

This beautiful Chinese embroidery fragment is covered in examples of knot work and couched thread. It is possibly a cuff band from an old robe that has been saved. It has been stitched to a silk background and mounted as it ready to hang on the wall. The embroidery has been stabilized with a narrow black and white ribbon around the perimeter. There is some very slight damage to the silk background, and part of the outer black band seems to have been over painted with gold, but not consistently. The fabric “frame” has been glued to the light weight silk backing. Late 19th to early 20th century.

Size: Approximate size 8 1/2 inches wide by 24 inches long.
