Wabi Sabi Antique Reworked Dress

1. This 19th century black satin dress is reminiscent of a Dickens novel. The satin has been lined with a light weight cotton to help preserve and strengthen the fabric. It has many areas of distress both from wear and from age. Because of the mordants used in setting the black dye, the surface of the fabric is slowly disintegrating to a fine dust. By looking at the lining, you can see the construction of the garment, and some of the marks where it has been patched and mended many times. The buttons down the centre back are glass.
