Large Japanese Embroidered Banner

$1,200.00

Possibly late 19th or early 20th century. The red background silk is damaged, mostly from age. There are five cranes in the banner – two dancing on each side, and the large central one. The five black insignia across the top could be a temple or family mark.  Five is an auspicious number in Japan.  This piece may have been created for a temple or shrine.
