Hand Woven Japanese Silk Obi


Hand woven silk Japanese obi. There are two dynamic supplemental embroidery panels, balance of obi is dark purplish black. Ground colour is possibly from successive indigo dying. Back of obi has been opened up to show course cotton lining that would support the shape of the final obi. Probably first quarter of the 20th century 1920s or 1930s. Approximate width is 12 1/2 inches, length 126 inches. Embroidered details are the width of the kimono (12 1/2inches ) by approximately 16 1/2 inches.
