This quilted velvet vest from Central Asia dates from the mid to late 20th century.
Embellished with couched silver thread and coloured silk embroidery. Lined in a natural, plain cotton. Embellishments have been sewn through an additional layer of paper to stabilize the weight against the velvet. This would help to prevent sagging or tearing of the finer fabric during wear. Hook and eye closure is backed by felted wool.
