A vinaigrette or smelling salts bottle. In the 1800s, when you had wood fires, coal fires and a variety of bad smells these were a necessary item. This bottle likely date around 1850 and is most likely English. An overlay glass creation, opal with an outer layer of amethyst glass. This type of glass was expensive when new and has never been common.
