Obi with Crane Origami Pattern

Wine colored, brocade woven Japanese obi. Origami crane design is created using supplementary wefts. Part of design that is gold is most likely foil wrapped paper. First half of the 20th century. Folded width is approximately 6 inches, at the end where it is unfolded, approximately 12 inches. Length is approximately 138 inches.

Condition: There is some distress to the edges of the obi and one minimal piece of die shifting. Where the obi has been opened at one end you can see the backside of the supplementary weft and the raw silk that was used to stiffen the obi. Approximately 57 inches at one end of the obi is plain.
