White Silk Dragon Kimono

$2,500.00

This elaborately embroidered Chinese kimono, showing a four toed dragon and fiery pearls, embroidered on a silk brocade ground, possibly dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Most of the embroidery is a gold wrapped thread that has been couched in position. The other embroidery is in silk, some satin stitch interspersed with knot work. The embroidery on the hem is repeated on the bottom of the sleeves. The kimono is lined in white silk. Part of it has been re-lined, except for the sleeves and underarms , where the silk has deteriorated. It is gently padded throughout, with additional padding at the cuffs and along the hem. There are two small patches that have been made to the back of the kimono. There’s some very minor staining. There are some areas where the gold wrapped thread needs to be reattached to the garment. A beautiful piece.
