Authentic Ashanti Kente Cloth

$895.00

This beautiful Kente cloth is woven in a mixture of silk and cotton. Traditionally the Ashanti men were the weavers for these pieces. They are individually strip woven using a back-strap loom, and then sewn together. If you look closely at the individual patterned sections there are no repeats. Traditionally this would have been worn by nobility in a toga style fashion. It is now more commonly worn for celebrations and festivals. There is no sun fading on this piece. There are a few places where the stitching between the panels has come apart (see last 3 photos). A highlight for any collection of African textiles.
