Antique Embroidered Dragon Panel
19th century silk banner with dragons. The dragons are comprised of silver wrapped chord, that has been couched. There is some trapunto work where underlying fabric is cotton cord. The eyes and “eyebrows” of the dragons appear to be plain cotton cord. The black background is silk that has some damage from folding and age. The outside framing is a combination of cotton weaving with overlaid woven paper. In addition to the layers of paper there appears to have been either supplementary weft or embroidery. The woven framework is quite badly damaged all the way around the piece. The back is a loosely woven cotton brocade.
Size: It is approximately 58 inches long and 17 inches high.
