Scrimshaw Knife

$115.00

Often referred to as the sailor’s craft, this scrimshaw decorated knife depicts a whaling scene. With a Acores (Azores) written near the handle, this was possibly made as a souvenir. As these were primarily done on ivory, this piece could be from a walrus tusk. JFK was an avid scrimshaw collector. An unusual piece that could be used as a letter opener. Looks to have been repaired at the hilt (see last photo).

Scrimshaw decorated blade approximately 4 1/2 inches long, length of entire piece approximately 7 inches.
