Antique Travel Writing Desk With Rounded Corners

This beautiful antique travel writing desk has two bands of marquetry approximately 1 3/4” wide each, that grace the front, top and back of the box to the back hinges. When open, it lies flat to create a writing surface that is 16 1/2” by 12 1/2” on a surface of blue leather with a tooled edge. The upper portion of the leather has a sliding metal clip to keep it closed , but the wood around the lock has been damaged. It covers a compartment that is approximately 8 1/2” by 12 1/4”. The back of the leather covered board has been scored to resemble a book cover. The smaller blue leather flap opens to reveal another compartment that is approximately 6 1/2” by 12 1/4” wide and 2 3/4” deep. On the underside are pockets marked cards, notes, and two slightly illegible. In front of the smaller compartment is a square 1 3/4” compartment for an ink bottle, a rectangular compartment for pens and nibs that is about 7 1/2” wide by 1 3/4”, with a removable curved tray, and an angled compartment about 2 5/8” wide to store your stamps.

Overall size of the travel desk closed, is 14” wide by 10” deep and 6” high. There are some chips to the veneer, and parts of the marquetry have been damaged. There is no key. A beautiful period piece.
