Antique Lacquerware Desk Set
This beautiful mid19 century desk set is made of black lacquer with abalone insets and additional delicate gold painted details and highlights. There are two crystal ink wells, one on each side of the desk set, bracketing the lidded box at the centre back. There is some wear to the surface of the lacquer from use. One of the ink wells has a glass liner, but the ink well itself has been dropped and been badly chipped. The stand is approximately 12 inches wide and just over 8 inches deep. The ink wells are approximately 1 3/4 inches square and 2 1/2 inches high.
Since the gold work on the front has been worn off more on the left then on the right, you could assume that it was owned by somebody who wrote with their left hand. Mid Victorian 1850 to 1870. Made in England.
