White Cotton Tea Dress

This is a beautiful Edwardian tea dress in wonderful condition. The dress features a full body slip attached to the inside of the dress at the waist which fastens up the back centre with hook & eye fasteners. The slip is sleeveless and has a crew neck. The dress itself features a stunning example of Edwardian embroidery with an embroidered bib front decorated with lace insertions and pin tucking details all around the bib and down the bracelet length sleeves. Lace insertion is also used to create a belt-like effect at the natural waist line. The back of the bodice has two pin tucks on either side and mother-of-pearl buttons going down the centre. The mother-of-pearl buttons stop at the lace insertion "belt" where there are two snaps to continue doing up the dress. This particular dress was too small for the mannequin so they are not fastened but there is no issue with fastening up the dress entirely when it is on a body or bust that fits it. More buttons continue below the lace insertion "belt" which are not mother-of-pearl but very similar. The skirt part of the dress features a lace insertion all the way around it just above the long flounce hem as well as more pin tucks above and below the lace insertion used as decoration. This is a beautiful example of Edwardian prettiness.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. There is a tiny hole in the lining near the hook & eye fasteners at the mid back and there are about 2 places where you can see the fabric has been darned. The darned spots only add to it’s vintage charm. Overall, wonderful condition.
