This little black dress is an exquisite 1940s Suzy Perette. It has a one-inch thick black-sequined high jewel neckline. Below that is sheer black netting which, runs across the front of the chest in a semi-circle formation. This semi-circle of netting also runs across the back of the dress. In the front, the sheer netting ends just above the bust and is trimmed again by a one-inch thick band of black-sequins. Individual black sequins are sewn on top of the netting approximately one-inch apart from each other. The waist of the dress is a very high empire waist which, dips down on the sides of the dress. Below the natural waist there is heavy draping and gathering of material that ties around to the back of the dress. This draping is not only an extraordinary esthetic feature but as we know, can also hide a multitude of sins. The dress has two shoulder pads and short sleeves. The back of the dress does up with a hook & eye clasp at the top neckline then goes into a keyhole doing up again at the bottom black-sequined trim. A hidden back zipper lies below the sequins. The fabric is a silk crepe that moves from a black to a mauve depending on the light.

Fabric: Silk crepe
Condition: Pre-loved. The body of the dress is in amazing condition it’s just the seams that need a little attention on both sides. Also, the black/mauve colouring may be a result of its age rather than its intention. Either way, it adds to its character. The black-sequins are all in absolutely perfect condition.
